Monica Colgan

Founder & CEOPrincipal Consultant

Hello all,

My name is Monica and I'm a business planner and generalist with a wealth of direct experience in organization development, operations, HR, finance, tech, and marketing! I love engaging and partnering with small businesses to create/engineer systems that enable teams to perform and collaborate.

I've worked with a few hundred small businesses (and have started several myself!), including Launch Industries, HeartBeet Organic Superfoods Cafe, Pure Pies, and Youngstown Coffee (which I only take 10% credit for, my wife does most of the work there). I was the co-founder of Seattle Commissary Kitchen which I divested from in 2019 and I've helped launch numerous concepts from scratch, including Artisan Community Kitchen and Higher Leaf.

I love learning and am a Certified Senior Human Resources Manager (SHRM-SCP). I graduated magna cum laude with a Master’s in Organization Development and have a B.A. in Law and Justice with a minor in sociology.

I have a passion for working with mission-based organizations, especially those owned by folx from the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+, communities. Because I work with so many food businesses, earlier this year I became a Certified Food Protection Manager. Next I'm working on becoming a Certified Quickbooks Advisor.

In addition to all things food (quick serve, wholesale, virtual brands, commissary kitchens, farmers markets, manufacturing, emergency food, coffee, and more), I've worked in technology (i.e. help desk and tech support). I also work in a wide range of industries such as retail marijuana, automotive, landscaping, you name it! I've worked for all types of organizations including non-profits, professional organizations, small businesses, big business, even the government. I am especially passionate about developing business systems that make people’s lives easier and help small businesses get organized, so I have to stay quite organized myself to make it all work.

Ultimately, in all the work that I do, I strive to create company cultures that are diverse, equitable, inclusive, and welcoming of all people and communities. I am humbled to serve our community, supporting causes that promote social justice, a sustainable environment, and help people of all economic backgrounds move people toward health and well-being. I look forward to meeting you.
